We do not recommend painting over water stains without correct preparation — they will bleed through standard emulsion.
Is it possible to skim over a textured Artex ceiling rather than removing it?
If the Artex is flat (stippled or brushed rather than spiked or heavily patterned) and well adhered, skimming is possible after applying a bonding coat to control suction. Heavily patterned Artex requires more preparation and may still show some relief through the skim in raking light. We assess the specific pattern and adhesion and advise whether skimming or removal gives a better result.
